Frank Cook MP

One of the few decent MPs left, Frank Cook has failed to get automatically reselected by his constituency and now faces reselection in Stockton North. It will now go to an open contest.
According to another forum, likely runners alongside Cook are Unison President Norma Stephenson and the Brownite former Hornsey and Wood Green MP, Barbara Roche.

Any thoughts anyone?

Is this because Cook nominated John McD??? Both those mentioned ie NS and BR are not viable left options....bad news

I was wondering if anyone in Unison could argue that to oppose Frank in such a selection would not help union solidarity or something?

Are they insane? Cook had a massive majority in 2005 - not so Barbara Roche. Is this what they call parachuting in? and if so what is the motivation behind a constituency conceding like this?

Hi Mike
No, if true - Norma would make an excellent MP.

I don't know much about local politics, still regards.

I am a little concerned that the 'Stalinist Brown Machine' is picking off the lefties.

Here is another example.

Hi John - your recommendation of Norma somehow fills me with dread :-)

Ian - yes, this is what's been bothering me too - it's almost like, if you don't follow us 'get out' - we have room for the Digby-Joneses of this world but no anyone remotely left of centre who actually opens their mouth and says so.

What is to be done?

The JG recommendation also fills me with dread.....

I like Frank and his general political stance and would be sorry to see him de-selected. Its not the way to go. He is slightly older than I am and I went before a
similar possibility arose. If he misses out, I would prefer Norma Stephenson to Barbara Roche - but presumably there are others. Norma is sound in giving support to Iraqi Trade Unions, whilst Barbara was an ultra Blair loyalist as MP from 1992 to 2005. But hopefully Frank will hold on.

It's depressing. So many good MPs are standing down at this election - Alan Simpson, Lynne Jones, Neil Gerrard, etc. - we can little afford to lose those that remain. We could face the real possibility of the Campaign Group (or whatever left parliamentary grouping there is after the next election) numbering considerably under 20.

It is a shame about Frank Cook - tho he may be reselected - the locals do like him.

I hear that there is a strong local lad putting his name forward.

Believe it or not, a hedge fund manager!?

Not sure about his views but I hear that he addressed this year's conference at Bournemouth.

He may be stronger than Stephenson/Roche who carry a lot of political baggage.

Frank Cook is still the locals' choice though - Frank deserves to keep the seat.
